I had no job and depending on my grandpa to cover all my expenses was not the move! Especially because I was working and living on my own before studying so to go from financial independence to waiting for handouts was a huge no-no…

Fast forward to Spring 2020, COVID-19 was on a rampage, and like many other people during the pandemic… I googled ‘How to make money online’ and stumbled across a content creation course. I enrolled and made friends with other aspiring entrepreneurs in the program.

I never imagined it would have led me on this exhilarating path of self-discovery and entrepreneurship.

When she saw how well my emails resonated with her audience, she pushed me to offer it as a full-time service. But the thing is, I never considered myself to be a copywriter even if I was naturally talented at writing. In fact, I never thought I was cut out to be an entrepreneur period.

So I didn’t immediately act on her advice and continued to seek business coaching in hopes of finding the right path for me. I had to do A LOT of inner work to reframe my mindset, build the confidence to show up online, and be willing to look ‘fake’ ( I was accustomed of being the pretty girl on Instagram and talking about business was a terrifying 180 shift).

To this day, I'm so thankful she encouraged me to pursue copywriting because I was sleeping on myself BIG TIME. I overlooked my conversational charm, captivating personality, and empathy-filled messages because I thought it was something everyone had. 

I was gravely mistaken and when I saw how people were being taken advantage of with misleading marketing… I couldn't continue to idly standby so I put my fears behind me and started doing the damn thing!

At the end of 2019, I left home, Dominica, and ventured to the U.S. to pursue an engineering degree. I quickly realized the cost of living was very high…

I realized that many business owners mean well and simply want to get more sales… The problem is they struggle to effectively communicate with their customers, so default to sending mind-numbing ‘shop now’ emails because they think it’ll help them make money.

That’s when I finally decided to act upon my colleague’s advice and help ambitious entrepreneurs like you create impactful messaging to build a thriving community they can consistently monetize. 

I wanted to help those well-meaning entrepreneurs succeed because unlike the scammers and money-hungry brands, they cared about the people they served.

The Empathy Pandemic

During COVID I was getting tons of scam emails (I’m sure you did too). And on top of that, regular brands would email me out of the blue (after ghosting me for weeks, sometimes months) just to hustle me for an order.

Like hello!?! I even forgot you existed, we’re in the middle of a freaking pandemic and the first time you’re talking to me in forever, you’re sending a sales email?? Ugh. It was and still is a huge turn-off when I see companies only speaking to customers during a sale instead of trying to build a relationship with their customers.
